JabRef

If you are looking for JabRef, you have come to the right place. We explain what JabRef is and point you to the official download.

What is JabRef?

JabRef is a Java-based reference manager. It can edit and create BibTeX reference files—that is, it can be used to manage bibliographies that use the BibTeX bibliographic format. Cross-platform by design, it is also available as an extension of the OpenOffice and LibreOffice word processor applications for reference formatting and insertion in documents.

JabRef was designed to create search-compatible databases, and as such, it also integrates a bibliographic search function into its toolset. Entries in a bibliography can be sorted by the program according to a plurality of characteristics. The software is also able to import filetypes such as BibTeXML, JStor, XML and OVID documents. Exportable formats include HTML, RTF, and BibTeXML. The fields for all entries can be added to or reduced and the program’s UI is customizable as well.

JabRef can integrate with most other applications that are traditionally part of the bibliography-building workflow, being capable of running PDF viewing software as well as web browsing applications. It can generate keys (for BibTeX) automatically and is also able to read PDF XMP metadata. Finally, it has at least 10 other localizations other than English.
