Help Workshop

If you are looking for Help Workshop, you have come to the right place. We explain what Help Workshop is and point you to the official download.

What is Help Workshop?

Help Workshop or HTML Help Workshop is a program that enables the user to create a Help file for Windows-based applications and Web pages. It may also be utilized for documentation purposes.

The program includes an HTML compiler that will compress the files, before they are added to the compiled application. The Help file may include images and other graphics elements. Supported formats are .bmp, .dib, .wmf, .mrb and .shg.

To begin creating the Help file, the user will first need to write a code for each Help topic. Basically, this involves writing the topics on separate pages (one topic for each page), and then adding a topic ID for each one. The Topic ID will be the identifier for each topic to be inserted in the Help file. The ID is created as a footnote on the user’s text editor, i.e. MS Word, with the pound symbol (#) attached to it. Once all topics have been created, the file should be saves in Rich Text Format (.rtf), as this is the format recognized by the program.

To export the file as an HTML page, the user needs to launch the Help Workshop program and select Help Project under the New tab from the File dropdown menu. A filename has to be created first before the topics can be added. From the project window, several buttons are provided on the right side of the interface. These buttons include Files. Clicking this button will open a dialog box with the Add option provided. The user then selects the topic to be added, clicks on OK to add the file.
