What is Cisco Packet Tracer?
The Cisco Packet Tracer is a router simulator used in education and training, as well as in research for simple computer network simulations. This proprietary software is developed by Cisco Systems and is available to the students, alumni, and faculties of the Cisco Networking Academy working toward CCNA certification. The main purpose of this application is to provide learning regarding routing and networking, and to develop specific skills for Cisco technology.
Cisco Packet Tracer provides numerous features which includes Application Layer protocols and basic routing with RIP, EIGRP, and OSPF. Meanwhile, later version of Packet Tracer added BGP which is not part of the CCNA program, but of the CCNP. The Cisco Packet Tracer provides assessment, authoring, visualization, simulation, and collaboration features which enables users to easily understand complex technology concepts. This application helps users to improve their decision making skill, their creative and critical thinking, and their problem solving ability.
The Cisco Packet Tracer is compatible with the Microsoft Windows and Debian-Like Linux operating system, and is available in common languages including English, Spanish, German, Russian, Portuguese, and French.
