What is a ZZZ file?

The .zzz file extension is used for a data file format that was developed by Piriform Ltd. for one of their software products. These ZZZ files are generated by the CCleaner software, which was also created by Piriform Ltd. for Windows PCs, Mac computers and Android devices. When the CCleaner program securely deletes a file in the user's computer, this software converts the file into the .zzz format.Also known as CCleaner securely deleted files, these ZZZ files contain encrypted data of the file that was securely deleted by the CCleaner software. A .zzz file can be recovered, unencrypted and converted back to its original format by the CCleaner program. This software can be used to remove unused data, wipe confidential data and optimize the performance of Windows PCs, Mac OSX computers and Android devices.These ZZZ files cannot be opened without first recovering and unencrypting them using the CCleaner software. Aside from this application, there are no known programs that can unencrypt and convert these .zzz files back to their original formats.
