ZAB File
What are ZAB files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a ZAB file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your ZAB files.
What is a ZAB file?
A .ZAB file is a Zipped Audio Book file.
Zipped Audio Book (.ZAB) files are archive files that bundle together the audio tracks for an audiobook, compressing them into a single package using ZIP-style compression. These files are used to distribute audiobooks or other recorded audio content in a compact form, especially in cases where many long MP3 files are involved. They are useful when you want to transfer or store a whole audiobook collection as one file rather than many separate audio files.
The main program associated with .ZAB files is Switch Sound File Converter from NCH Software. Switch can open a .ZAB file similarly to how it handles .zip or .rar archives - extracting the individual MP3 or other audio tracks and then converting them to other formats or playing them.
Internally, a ZAB file begins like a standard ZIP archive: it starts with the ASCII signature "PK" at its beginning, and contains MP3 audio files. At offset 27 bytes into the file there is ASCII text corresponding to "Audiobook-", and elsewhere inside the file strings like "AUDIOBOOK -" and ".MP3" can be found.
