What are XST files and how to open them

What is an XST file?

XST files have multiple uses, and WebSphere XML SQL Template is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

WebSphere XML SQL Template

Files that contain the .xst file extension are most commonly associated with the WebSphere Application Server. WebSphere is a server program that hosts different Web applications written in the Java programming language. The XST files are XML-formatted files that contain database connection information, an SQL query, and an SQL to XML Java class. The file is used to generate XML data from an SQL database query.

How to open XST files

Important: Different programs may use files with the XST file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your XST file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While WebSphere XML SQL Template is a popular type of XST-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .XST file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Cross-section Process Definition File

The Tanner L-Edit software application also uses the .xst file suffix. L-Edit is a microchip layout design tool from Tanner Research. Their XST files contain cross-section process definitions. They contain a list of comment statements and process statements.

XST opener for Windows

We have identified one XST opener that is compatible with this specific type of XST file.

X1R / X Millennium Save State

We know that one XST format is X1R / X Millennium Save State. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
