The .WOFF or the Web open font format files are used to customize Web page fonts. WOFF file is commonly used by a number of web developers nowadays and a more popular web font format that replaces the older types that are used in Internet Explorer in the past. WOFF files are now used as opposed to standard formats because users can customize the fonts "openly" and still be recognizable by the browser.
Technically, font files with .woff format can support other font types on Web pages like .otf and .ttf font formats. It means that either .otf or .ttf is flash in the web, so as long as the web runs the letters in .woff format, the font can always be displayed. WOFF also supports font licensing information which is necessary for the use of fonts to be approved in creating and customizing web contents.
There is no known direct specialized program that specifically designed to open and/ or edit a .woff file. Nevertheless, the user can use font- viewer programs which are typically part of MS Windows. And the user can also view these files by using it in a webpage. WOFF2 is the successor to the WOFF file format, offering 20% better compression.
