What are VSIX files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a VSIX file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your VSIX files.
What is a VSIX file?
A .VSIX file is a Visual Studio Extension file.
This is a package format used by Visual Studio to distribute and manage extensions. These extensions provide additional functionality, such as support for new programming languages or debugging and testing tools, to Visual Studio.
The .vsix file format is a container format. It packages all the necessary files for an extension, including DLLs, XML files, and other resources. Metadata about the extension, such as its name, version and description, is also included in the package.
Examples of some of the most popular extensions available for Visual Studio are Resharper, a code quality and navigation tool, and the Azure SDK for .NET, which provides tools for developing and deploying applications on Azure.
To install an extension, double-click the .vsix file or use the Visual Studio Extension Manager. Once installed, the extension is available for use in Visual Studio.
