What is a VMX file?
Files that contain the .vmx file extension are most commonly associated with the VMware Fusion application. VMware Fusion allows Mac users to run the Windows operating system on their Macintosh computers as a virtual machine host OS.
The VMX files that are used by a Mac computer contain the configuration files for the software program. These files store the settings for the virtual machine settings editor and for the New Virtual Machine Wizard. The VMX files that are used by the VMware Fusion program are normally saved in a plain-text format.
The VMX file format is similar to the CFG file format, however CFG files were used in earlier versions of the VM Workstation.
The .vmx file suffix is also used for the Cubase Mixer software program. This audio mixing software stores the channel and effect settings for the Cubase audio application.
