What are VAP files and how to open them

How to open VAP files

Important: Different programs may use files with the VAP file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your VAP file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested four different VAP openers which you will find listed below.

All known file formats using extension .VAP

While Annotated Speech Audio File is a popular type of VAP-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .VAP file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

ViRBO Autoplot Project

ViRBO Autoplot is a tool used in geophysics and related fields to visualize and analyze data, and it saves project files with the “.vap” extension.

A VAP file contains all information necessary to recreate a specific session in Autoplot, including the data sets used, any transformations or analysis applied to the data, and the layout and appearance of the visualization. A VAP file does not contain the actual data used to produce the plot, but only references in the form of URLs or file locations.

Autoplot supports a wide range of data formats, including ASCII, CSV, NetCDF, HDF5, and more. Data can be loaded directly into Autoplot or via URL. Once loaded, users can perform analysis and visualization operations using a simple scripting language or through the Autoplot GUI.

VoiceAttack Profile

We know that one VAP format is VoiceAttack Profile. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
