What are TSR files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a TSR file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your TSR files.

What is a TSR file?

TSR files have multiple uses, and Time Stamp Response is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Time Stamp Response File

Timestamping helps verify the authenticity and integrity of documents or messages. A third-party, a time stamp authority (TSA), generates a .tsr file in response to a request. The .tsr file contains the time stamp, TSA's certificate and other relevant info about the request.

Proof of existence, validation of electronic signatures and protection against fraud - these are key benefits of time stamping. It's also used to prove that a document was created at certain point or remains valid over time.

A trusted and reliable TSA must issue the timestamp for security reasons. The .tsr file is used to authenticate the timestamp as well as to decrypt its content should it be needed. So timestamps help ensure that your data remains secure and certified across devices over an extended period of time.
