TPF File

What are TPF files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a TPF file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your TPF files.

What is a TPF file?

TPF files have multiple uses, and Transit NXT Translation Pack is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Transit NXT Translation Pack File

A Transit NXT pack translation file or TPF file is created and used by the Transit NXT software. The .tpf files stores database of lists of words and phrases in different languages, with each word or phrase linked to the other words and phrases that are also translated versions of other languages supported by the Transit NXT software.

The Transit NXT application is categorized as a translation and localization program developed to provide users with features that allow them to translate their written text and documents into other supported and known languages.

When a user process written texts or documents using the Transit NXT software, these new entries are entered into the database and they are added to the list of words and phrases stored in the Transit NXT pack translation files. Every new entry increases the translation vocabulary of the program and thus enhances its stored libraries.

The .tpf files, which now contain the new translation libraries, are then uploaded automatically by the Transit NXT software to Web servers of STAR Group (developer of Transit NXT). This way, it allows other users to benefit from the updated database of the translation libraries.

All known file formats using extension .TPF

While Transit NXT Translation Pack File is a popular type of TPF-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .TPF file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

HiJaak PCL Soft Font

HiJaak PCL Soft Font (.TPF) is a font file used by the HiJaak application. It stores downloadable soft fonts compatible with the HP Printer Command Language (PCL), enabling custom fonts to be sent from a computer to a PCL-capable printer. HiJaak creates these files so you can print text or graphics using fonts not built into the printer.

Such a .TPF file is produced by the HiJaak software; it prepares the soft font file in PCL soft font format. The file is meant to be downloaded to a PCL printer: the printer reads the font, installs it temporarily or permanently in its RAM, and then uses it to render printed output whenever that font is selected by the print job.

Internally, a file in this format begins with the ASCII signature "TPF3" at byte offset 0. That header identifies it as the HiJaak PCL soft font file.

TexMod Package File

TexMod Package File (.TPF) is a binary format used specifically by the TexMod utility to bundle modified textures for games that use Direct3D (version 9 or higher). It's created for sharing or applying multiple texture replacements at once without altering the original game files. Users of TexMod create .TPF files to implement custom skins, textures, or graphical tweaks that load into a game when launched through TexMod in Package Mode.

The format is written by TexMod when running in its Package Build Mode. To generate a .TPF file, one first uses TexMod's Logging Mode to extract texture files (typically in formats like .DDS, .PNG, etc.) along with a log - often known as a definition file - that maps each original texture (identified by a hash or checksum) to a replacement texture file. The package build process combines the edited textures and the definition mappings into the .TPF container; the resulting .TPF is then used in Package Mode to inject those replacements at runtime.

A technical detail: .TPF files begin with a unique byte signature F4 74 A7 3B B0 3F AD 3F AC 3F (at offset 0), which helps TexMod identify them as valid package containers.
