Opening RVT files

Did your computer fail to open a RVT file? We explain what RVT files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your RVT files.

What is a RVT file?

The .rvt file extension is used for a proprietary document file format that was developed by Autodesk, Inc. These RVT files are classified as 3D graphics and CAD files. Also known as Autodesk Revit Architecture project files, these .rvt files are generated by the Revit Architecture software, which was also created by Autodesk.

The Revit Architecture program is a CAD tool that allows users to create building and construction designs. When creating a design project using this software, the project is saved in the RVT file format. Upon finalizing the design project for publication, Architecture Revit can be used to export RVT project files to the DWFX format, which is the standard publishing format for Architecture Revit projects.

These .rvt files can only be opened using the Autodesk Architecture Revit software. This program can also be used to create and edit the content of these RVT project files.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
