What are PSV files and how to open them

What is a PSV file?

PSV files have multiple uses, and PlayStation Save Game is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

PlayStation Save Game

The PSV file format is the proprietary file format used by Sony Playstation consoles to store saved game data. As a binary file, it holds essential information about the player's progress in a game, such as position, inventory and so on; thus allowing players to pick up their game from where they left off instead of starting from scratch every time.

PSV files can be stored on the PlayStation console's hard drive or a removable storage device like a memory card, allowing players to transfer saved games from one PlayStation console to another. This makes it possible for players to keep playing the same game on different consoles.

In order to resume playing the game at a later point, players can choose the PSV file associated with their game in the game's menu. The Playstation console will then load up the saved game data, allowing you to start from where you last left off without having to replay your progress from the beginning.

How to open PSV files

Important: Different programs may use files with the PSV file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your PSV file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
