Files that contain the .policy file extension are most commonly used by the Java programming language. The Java programming language was first released by Sun Microsystems in 1995 and serves as the underlying technology for many games, websites, utilities and software applications.
When multiple Java programs run on a node in a Java virtual machine, they all share the same POLICY file. Java applications implement a number of POLICY files in order to handle application security.
The .policy file extension is also used for the policy files that are used for the Opera Web browser. The Opera browser can be used on computers, smart phones and other mobile devices.
Unfortunately we have not received enough suggestions for software that can open POLICY files yet.
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about the POLICY file format or software that uses files with the POLICY suffix, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
