What are P7S files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a P7S file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your P7S files.
What is a P7S file?
A .P7S file is a PKCS #7 Signature file.
A P7S file is sent as an attachment to a digitally signed email message and contains the digital signature used to sign the email content.
Normally the attached file is called SMIME.p7s, where SMIME is short for Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. It is a standard used by email clients to handle digitally signed emails. The signature is used to verify the email's sender, to check that the email content has not been altered, and optionally to encrypt the email.
These files are also known as PKCS #7 signature files.
