NMSV File
What are NMSV files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a NMSV file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your NMSV files.
What is a NMSV file?
A .NMSV file is a Native Instruments Massive Sound file.
Native Instruments Massive Sound (.nmsv) files store presets (sounds/patches) created for the MASSIVE software synthesizer by Native Instruments. Each file captures the full state of the synth - including its oscillator, filter, modulation, envelope, effects, and performance settings - allowing producers to save custom patches, organize presets, or share sounds with others.
MASSIVE itself creates .nmsv files when you choose Save or Save As Sound from its File menu, or when you convert older .ksd presets using the built-in "Import KSD Sound" or "KSD Batch Convert" functions. When loading, MASSIVE reads the .nmsv file and applies all saved parameter values so the sound you hear matches what was stored. The user can also place .nmsv files in the designated Sound/Preset folders for MASSIVE to index and browse.
Internally, .nmsv files include identifiable signatures such as ASCII strings "M'A'S'S'I'V'E," "DSIN" or "HSIN," and specific byte-patterns at set offsets, which are used by MASSIVE or file sniffing tools to recognize the file.
