What is a MDI file?
MDI files have multiple uses, and Microsoft Document Imaging Format Image is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Microsoft Document Imaging Format Image
MDI files are created with the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program, which Microsoft has discontinued in Office 2010. The files contain tag-based graphics that are commonly used when you print to the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer.
MDI files are like TIFF files, but the MDI file format is proprietary to the Microsoft application. Files with the .mdi extension can store text recognized by optical character recognition (allowing you to edit the text in the files with compatible software) and graphics and file layouts.
