The .mcf~ file extension is basically a data storage file format for various multimedia files. MCF means Media Container Format, hence suggests the purpose of the files with .mcf~ extension. Since .mcf~ files are multimedia containers, MCF files have streaming and broadcasting features. MCF files were created to expand on the ability of other movies and media file formats, such as .AVI. MCF files allow a user to hold all files necessary for a movie, such as audio, video, and subtitle files
But the key feature of MCF is that it is able to store several chapters of video, menus, subtitles in several languages and multiple audio streams (e.g. for different languages) in the same file. For example, a video can be viewed in Arabic, Farsi or Chinese audio depending on the user's preference. Moreover, the contents of .mcf~ files could be split between several files called segments and the segments could also be played separately, and overlap between segments was customizable. This is a feature that is best served in case of video editing requirements. Segments can be managed easily and can be modified tactfully.
