Opening LEX files

Did your computer fail to open a LEX file? We explain what LEX files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your LEX files.

What is a LEX file?

Files that contain the .lex file extension are normally associated with the Microsoft Office dictionary tool.

LEX files are stored in the Lexington Dictionary file format. The LEX files are used to extend the default spelling dictionary that is used by the Microsoft Office dictionary software application. They are also used by other dictionaries, such as the Merriam Webster dictionary software application. The files are referenced when a user performs a spell check on a document that he or she is creating.

The .lex file extension is also used by the COREX software application. These files contain the lexicon files that are used by the program.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
