LBS File
What are LBS files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a LBS file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your LBS files.
What is a LBS file?
A .LBS file is an Omnis Studio Library file.
The Omnis Studio Library (".lbs") file is a proprietary library file used by Omnis Studio, a Rapid Application Development (RAD) system by Raining Data. It contains collections of classes, forms, tasks, reports, styles, fonts, icons and other components that make up parts of an Omnis application. Developers use .lbs files to package reusable system and application building blocks, for instance templates (remote forms, menu classes, window layouts), system preferences, and startup logic.
In Omnis Studio workflow, .lbs files are written by the developer inside Omnis Studio when creating or exporting a project library. A library may be started from a blank template or from predefined class templates. These files are then opened by Omnis Studio (either the full development version or appropriate runtime) to load those classes and objects during development or deployment. The library can be exported to a JSON-folder tree form for version control or collaboration, but the .lbs file itself remains the packaged form used for loading, distributing, and deploying Omnis applications.
A technical characteristic is that .lbs files are binary library files that begin with a specific signature pattern of bytes at offset 1 (hex 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 01 00 03 00 01 00 04 00 81 00 05 01 01 00 07 01 01 00 02 01 00 00 00). They also contain strings such as "STARTUP_TASK", "EXTCOMPLIBS", "APPLICATION", "DFORMS", "RFONTS", "STYLES", "ICONS" and others within the binary structure, which indicate sections or resource-types embedded in the library.
