Opening KGB files

Did your computer fail to open a KGB file? We explain what KGB files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your KGB files.

What is a KGB file?

Files that contain the .kgb file extension normally hold archive files that have been created using the KGB archive and file compression software utility.

The KGB archive and compression software is a data compression tool that compresses files at a higher rate than the majority of the other file archiving applications that are currently distributed. This allows for smaller archive files, saving a user disc space when archiving large collections of data.

The files created by this software can also be encrypted, using AES-256 encryption technology. This adds an element of security to the compressed data file.

The .kgb file suffix is also used by the KGB Z80 Spectrum Emulator. These KGB files contain snap files that are used by the application.

The Kremlin encryption software also uses the .kgb file extension for the files that the program encrypts.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
