What are IPS files and how to open them

What is an IPS file?

International Patching System Patch File

IPS is an acronym for International Patching System, a standard for providing patch updates for ROM image game files. The IPS files may contain the models, graphics, and other details that are used to update a variety of computer gaming applications.

The Nintendo SNES emulator ZNES is one software application that uses the IPS file format for update patches. The IPS file format is normally only used for small game patches.

How to open IPS files

Important: Different programs may use files with the IPS file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your IPS file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
