What are IEN files and how to open them

What is an IEN file?
An .IEN file is an ImageEn Image file.
ImageEn native image format is a proprietary file format used by the ImageEn library (for Delphi and C++Builder) to save raster images together with all editing information. It stores the image, any layers (image, text, shapes, lines, vectors), annotations, and transparency so edits can be preserved for later work.
Files with this format are written and read only by ImageEn: they are not standard graphics files like JPEG or PNG. When you save a layered image in ImageEn, choosing its native (.ien /.imageen /.lyr) format preserves each layer separately rather than flattening the result. You can also embed a thumbnail preview to speed up loading in list views or dialogs.
When saving, you can select the compression method. Using negative values (-1 or -2) results in lossless compression or no compression, keeping exact pixel and alpha channel data. Specifying a standard image format (e.g. PNG or JPEG) is allowed but may lose transparency. Transparency is retained only if using lossless or PNG compression.
When loading content from such a file via ImageEn's LoadFromStreamIEN or related APIs, all layers and their properties are restored if the target component supports layers; otherwise the contents are merged into a composite image. There is also an option to load only the thumbnail if available.
