What is an IDEA file?

An .IDEA file is an IdeaMaker Project file.

The IDEA-Maker Project file format (extension .IDEA) is the native "project workspace" file used by ideaMaker, a slicing program from Raise3D. It records the state of a 3-D print project including all the imported model geometries and how they are arranged, scaled, or grouped; any support structures (manual or generated) and modifiers; layer settings; and other slicing parameters. It preserves enough data so users can return later, re-open the project, make further edits, and re-slice before exporting printable output.

ideaMaker itself both creates and consumes .IDEA files. Saving via the File menu stores the current project workspace - including workspace layout, slicing settings, model support/modifier placement, group and layer assignments, scale, position, etc. - into a .IDEA file. Later, opening that .IDEA file restores all those items so you can continue editing. The file is not directly printable; it must be sliced to produce printer-ready files like .GCODE.

Files in this format begin with the ASCII header string IDEA-MAKER at offset zero (bytes 0x49 0x44 0x45 0x41 0x2D 0x4D 0x41 0x4B 0x45 0x52) which identifies them as ideaMaker Project files.
