What are ID2 files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an ID2 file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your ID2 files.
What is an ID2 file?
Files that contain the .id2 file extension are most commonly used by the Microsoft Live Messenger instant messenger application. The ID2 files that are used by the software allow the application to store image data for the Microsoft Live Messenger program.
Some of the data that is contained in the ID2 files include the user's signature data, emoticon details, keyboard shortcuts and avatar settings. A user's ID2 files are encrypted. The user's Microsoft Passport ID is used to decrypt the files so that they can be used in the Windows Live Messenger program when a user begins a Windows Live Messenger session.
