What are HDPMX files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a HDPMX file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your HDPMX files.

What is a HDPMX file?

A .HDPMX file is a HotDocs Publisher Mapping XML file.

A HotDocs Publisher Mapping XML File is used in the HotDocs system to store how data fields from external data sources map to variables used in document templates. It is created by HotDocsʼ Publisher component when you need to link (or "map") fields - such as columns in a database, Excel, or other structured data - to HotDocs variables so that when documents are generated, the correct data fills each variable. Users don't manually edit these as plain text unless integrating HotDocs with external applications.

This file is produced by HotDocs when you configure or export a mapping for document publication, and is used later by third-party or external applications (or by HotDocs itself) to understand how the source data relates to template variables. It does not itself contain the full data to populate a document - only instructions describing which data fields correspond to which variables.

Mapping files created with HotDocs 2009 and later, including HDPMX files, are saved in XML format. These XML mapping files follow a schema that HotDocs uses to validate the mappings.
