Opening GPD files

Did your computer fail to open a GPD file? We explain what GPD files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your GPD files.

What is a GPD file?

Files that contain the .gpd file extension are most commonly used by Microsoft Corporation for Generic Printer Description files. The GPD files create minidrivers, which are text-based descriptions of the printers that are being used by a computer.

Each GPD file that is created describes a specific printer from a specific manufacturer. Each minidriver can contain one or more GPD files within it.

The .gpd file extension may also be used to store graphic images. In these circumstances, the image contained in the file is stored using a lossless compression method. This GPD file format is similar to both the PNG and GIF file formats.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
