Opening GADGET files

Did your computer fail to open a GADGET file? We explain what GADGET files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your GADGET files.

What is a GADGET file?

Files that contain the .gadget file extension are used by the Windows operating system for the Windows sidebar gadgets. These files contain small applications that provide users with desktop access to frequently used tools such as news tickers, clocks, maps, Internet radio streams and more.

To use the GADGET files you must install the Windows Sidebar, which is a panel that appears on the side of the Windows Vista desktop. You can keep your GADGET files in this sidebar for easy access to the GADGET tools and information. GADGET applications are very similar to WIDGET applications, but are created specifically for the Windows sidebar utility.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
