What are FLM files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a FLM file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your FLM files.

What is a FLM file?

FLM files have multiple uses, and Adobe FilmStrip is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Adobe FilmStrip

These FLM files contain the slides created in Adobe FilmStrip, a software used to display slides in the order in which they will appear when displayed. You can edit the slide order and the size.

How to open FLM files

Important: Different programs may use files with the FLM file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your FLM file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested seven different FLM openers which you will find listed below.

All known file formats using extension .FLM

While Adobe FilmStrip is a popular type of FLM-file, we know of 8 different uses of the .FLM file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Animatic Film

These FLM files contain the pictures displayed in a storyboard, pictures that are timed and cut together with a soundtrack. You can edit the storyboard during the Animatic phase, but that prevents the animation of scenes that would be edited out of the film.

AutoCAD/AutoShade Film Roll

We know that one FLM format is AutoCAD/AutoShade Film Roll. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.

Flasm disassembled Flash ActionScript bytecode

These FLM files contain the command lines used in Flasm, a free command-line assembler/disassembler of Flash ActionScript bytecode. Flasm allows you to make changes to SWF files, an Adobe Flash file format. These FLM files are used to optimize the content used in SWF files.

Foreign Language Master Dictionary

We know that one FLM format is Foreign Language Master Dictionary. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.

Novastorm Media Animation

We know that one FLM format is Novastorm Media Animation. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.

Stunt Island Film

These FLM files contain the film sets used in Stunt Island, a flight simulation video game for MS-DOS PCs released in 1992. These film sets consist of a city, an oil rig, a canyon, and an aircraft carrier. You can edit and move the positions of the cameras and props around the sets.

Video Master Film/Video/Sequence

We know that one FLM format is Video Master Film/Video/Sequence. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
