What are EVTX files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening an EVTX file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your EVTX files.

What is an EVTX file?

An .EVTX file is a Windows XML Event Log file.

EVTX files are used to store event logs in a structured XML format. They contain records of system and application events on Windows computers, such as warnings, errors, and other notifications.

Event Viewer is a Windows tool to view and manage event logs. It shows logs from multiple PCs and can filter them depending on the source, severity, or time.

EVTX files appear when users export logs from Event Viewer or when Windows does it for troubleshooting. They open in Event Viewer or any software app that supports Windows Event Logs.

Event Logs provide IT professionals with valuable insights into system and application performance, security and troubleshooting. By analyzing them they can detect potential issues before they cause problems like system downtime or data loss.
