DOTX File Type
- The quick factsWhat are DOTX files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a DOTX file or just wondering what they contain? We explain what these files are used for and show you software that we know can open or otherwise handle your files.
What is a DOTX file?
A .DOTX file is a Microsoft Word Template file.
Files that contain the .dotx file extension are Microsoft Word template files. These files are created by versions of Word that were released in 2007 and later. Versions of Word released before 2007 save these templates with the .dot file extension rather than .dotx.
Microsoft Word is a word processing application. The .dotx files that are created within the application contain default layouts and settings for a Microsoft document. DOTX templates may also include macros, AutoText, and toolbar settings. These templates allow users to use the same layout and format for multiple Word documents without designing each one from scratch.
