Did your computer fail to open a DIFF file? We explain what they are used for and recommend software that we know can open or otherwise handle your .DIFF files.
What is a DIFF file?
A .DIFF file is a Difference file. Files that contain the .diff file extension are most commonly used for difference data files. The DIFF files contain the patch script information for the difference data files saved with the .diff file suffix. These files are used to show the differences between two different files, such as the difference between a former and later file version.
These logged changes in a DIFF file are shown via per-line changes for text files, and the output can be applied using a Unix program patch. This is why files with the .diff file extension are sometimes referred to as "patch" files. We have not yet verified any programs for Windows that work with this specific file format. If you know one, please use the 'Suggest a program' link below. Thanks!
What else are .DIFF files used for?
While Difference File is a popular type of DIFF-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .DIFF extension.
The DIFF file extension indicates to your device which app can open the file. However, different apps may use the same file extension for different types of data. So a DIFF opener may not be able to open all kinds of DIFF files. In this case, look through both formats to make sure you find the best suited DIFF viewer.
