DIAGCAB File Type- The quick facts
What are DIAGCAB files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a DIAGCAB file or just wondering what they contain? We explain what these files are used for and show you software that we know can open or otherwise handle your files.
What is a DIAGCAB file?
A .DIAGCAB file is a Diagnostic Cabinet file. Microsoft developed the DIAGCAB file format as a data and archive file format for Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10. These .diagcab files are generated by the makecab tool, a Windows application built into these Windows OS versions. The data stored in a DIAGCAB file can be viewed using the Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool, which is another application that's also available in these Windows OS versions.
The Windows Troubleshooting service uses these .diagcab files, which were introduced in Windows Vista. This application assists users in detecting problems and repairing system issues. This can also be used to send error logs and reports to Microsoft servers for analysis.
