DHW File

What are DHW files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a DHW file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your DHW files.

What is a DHW file?

A .DHW file is an ACECAD DigiMemo Hand Written Memo file.

ACECAD DigiMemo Hand Written Memo is the native digital page format used by ACECAD's DigiMemo series of electronic notepads. It stores handwritten strokes made on paper via DigiMemo's pen, along with timing and positional data, so that what was written on paper can later be viewed, managed, or imported in digital form.

ACECAD's DigiMemo device, together with its bundled Manager or Handwriting Recognition software, writes digital page files whenever the pen is used on paper over the machine's sensor pad. Each writing session on one paper page becomes one digital page file, captured independently. After being created on a DigiMemo unit, these page files are transferred to a computer - for example via USB - and can be organized, viewed, or converted into other formats using ACECAD's software.

Files in this format begin with a fixed ASCII signature at the very start: the bytes are 41 43 45 43 41 44 5F 44 49 47 49 4D 45 4D 4F 5F 48 41 4E 44 57 52 49 54 49 4E 47 5F, which reads as "ACECAD_DIGIMEMO_HANDWRITING_" at offset zero. The files are written by DigiMemo's firmware (in models such as A502, 692, L2) and are referred to within ACECAD's manuals as Digital Page (.DHW).
