What is a DBC file?

DBC files have multiple uses, and CAN Data Base is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

How to open DBC files

Important: Different programs may use files with the DBC file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your DBC file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While CAN Data Base is a popular type of DBC-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .DBC file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

DBC Communication Database for CAN

We know that one DBC format is DBC Communication Database for CAN. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
