What is a CRYPT8 file?
The CRYPT8 file format was developed as a database format for version 8 of WhatsApp Messenger. This is an application that can be installed and used in tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices that run on the Android OS, BlackBerry, iOS or Windows Phone. WhatsApp Messenger is an instant messaging (IM) client that can allow users to send text messages, share multimedia content, place and receive call via VoIP (voice over Internet protocol).A .crypt8 file may contain text messages of chat conversations that are archived by WhatsApp Messenger. These CRYPT8 files may also contain metadata details and session logs like date and time stamps of incoming and outgoing calls, sent and received files, etc. It's best to leave these .crypt8 files alone so as to ensure that the stored chat logs and other details can properly be accessed by WhatsApp Messenger upon the request of the user. These may be opened and viewed with the use of standard text editors like Notepad, though it may not display human readable content.
