The .crtx file format is used in files associated with Microsoft Excel 2007 and other later versions of Excel. A .crtx is a Microsoft office file type that contains a chart template that can be used in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office programs. CRTX means Chart Template- XML.
User cannot open the file directly or by double- clicking the file. To view the contents of the .crtx file, open Microsoft Excel 2007 and click 'Insert'. Go to Charts then click any 'Column, Line, Pie, Bar, Area, Scatter or Other Charts'. Below the choices, there is an 'All Chart Types' select button. Click that and 'Insert Chart' Window will appear. At the bottom of this Window there four select buttons, namely 'Manage Templates…', 'Set as Default Chart', 'Ok', and 'Cancel'. Click 'Manage Templates'. This will direct you to the explorer window address 'C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Charts'. Paste the .crtx file in the said folder destination and close the explorer window. However, don’t close “Insert Chart” Window. At the top of “Insert Chart” window there is a folder type icon “Templates” Click it and the .crtx file you just pasted appear there. Double- click on it and view the contents.
