What are CR8 files and how to open them

What is a CR8 file?

A .CR8 file is a Cre8or Model/project file.

Cre8or Model/project files are 3D scene and game project documents created by the Cre8or game-creation tool. They bundle data such as scene layout, meshes and models, materials, lighting, animations, scripting, engine settings, and other properties that define how the game or 3D project should look and behave when loaded in Cre8or.

The Cre8or tool writes these project files as its editable working format. Artists or designers can build or modify environments, character models, physics settings, and the scripting logic inside Cre8or using its editor. When projects are complete or for testing, these files are read by the Cre8or engine (or player component) which interprets the stored elements - geometry, textures, animation tracks, physics parameters etc. - to display the scene, run animation and simulate interaction.

Internally the files are text-based (ASCII) and include many structured keywords and sections. They typically begin with a header like <Project>…<version> at the start of file. Inside are blocks and definitions such as ENVIRONMENT {, MATERIALLIST {, OBJECTELEMENT {, ANIMATION_TRACKS, SCRIPT_FILE, CAMERA {, FRAMERATE {, GRAVITY_X, GRAVITY_Y, GRAVITY_Z, among many others. Also present are references to rendering options, material definitions, and layout properties. These signatures and keywords help Cre8or recognize and parse the document into its internal data structures.

How to open CR8 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CR8 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CR8 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
