CLR0 File
What are CLR0 files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a CLR0 file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your CLR0 files.
What is a CLR0 file?
A .CLR0 file is a Wii Color Swapping Animation file.
Wii Color Swapping Animation files are used by Mario Kart Wii and similar Nintendo Wii games to define color-change animations for materials. These animations allow certain colors in a material (such as a character's costume or object) to be gradually changed over time or swapped entirely, enabling effects such as changing color gradients, blinking lights, or transitioning costume color sets in game. They are stored inside larger game resource archives (BRRES), alongside model, texture, and movement animation data.
These files are produced during the game development or modding process and read by the game engine at runtime. Editing tools such as BrawlBox or BrawlCrate can create or modify them by setting the number of animation frames, selecting whether the animation loops, defining one or more materials to target, and mapping which parts of the material's rendering pipeline (e.g. "color registers", "constant color registers", or ambient/light channels) undergo color changes over the course of the animation. Each frame contains RGBA color values for each target element.
Files begin with a header string that identifies them as a "CLR0" sub-file within a BRRES archive.
