CF2 File

What are CF2 files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a CF2 file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your CF2 files.

What is a CF2 file?

A .CF2 file is a Common Loudspeaker Format Binary file.

Common Loudspeaker Format Binary is a directivity data file used in loudspeaker modeling that describes how a loudspeaker emits sound in three dimensions using frequency‐band and angular resolution. It serves acoustics software by providing measurements taken in anechoic conditions on a spherical grid around a loudspeaker so that sound reproduction and room prediction tools can simulate its behavior accurately.

This format is created by the CLF Group, based on measurements converted from a text‐based CLF input (tab‐delimited text with frequency bands and angular samples) into a secure binary form. Software that reads these files uses the magnitude of sound pressure levels across azimuth and elevation angles to generate directivity "balloons" or polar plots. The newer version ("CLF2 v2") extends this by including phase information and optional filters (such as for cross-overs or beam-steering) and supports representation of multi-way loudspeakers or arrays.

The binary file begins with a fixed byte signature: at offset zero it contains the bytes 41 BD 0A 00 01 followed, after 15 bytes, by "v1."0 or "v2."0, and then 16 null bytes. This signature helps acoustics tools distinguish it from other file types.

How to open CF2 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CF2 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CF2 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested four different CF2 openers which you will find listed below.
