What are CDL files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a CDL file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your CDL files.

What is a CDL file?

CDL files have multiple uses, and CD Label Pro project is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

CD Label Pro project

These CDL files contain the images/labels used in Disketch Disc Label Software, a software designed to create and print labels and covers for your CDs. You can add images and text to your CDs, print them using a special printer, or send them to a print shop.

How to open CDL files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CDL file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CDL file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While CD Label Pro project is a popular type of CDL-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .CDL file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Color Decision List

These CDL files contain the information for the exchange of basic primary color grading information between software. It transfers Slopes, Offsets, Power, and saturation. These values are math functions that use red, blue, and green to comprise one color decision.

NetCDF (network Common Data Form)

We know that one CDL format is NetCDF (network Common Data Form). We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
