BWC File
What are BWC files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a BWC file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your BWC files.
What is a BWC file?
A .BWC file is a Baan Windows Client Config file.
Baan Windows Client Config files store settings that allow a Baan Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) client to connect to a specific server environment and launch with predefined user preferences. These configuration files are produced by the Baan Windows (also called BW or Infor BW) client installation tools when a user or administrator defines a connection to a Baan ERP system. They keep details like hostname, protocol type, port number, automation settings, login credentials (optional), and display settings. During use, these configuration files are read by the BW client or the BECS (Baan Environment and Configuration Selector) utility so that double-clicking a configuration launches BW with those settings.
Settings stored include server connection parameters (hostname, server environment directory often known as BSE), choice of bshell application logic, optional command-line arguments, user login name (and optionally password), and display preferences such as font names, sizes, weights, and styles. Administrators can save configurations locally or on central servers. The files support multiple versions of BW (e.g. Baan IV, ERP5, LN) and help enforce policies like disabling password storage or restricting ability to edit configurations.
Technical identifiers include the ASCII header "[ApplicationServer]" followed by field definitions such as "bse=/…" near the start of the file. Other recognizable strings include "FONTHEIGHT132", "AUTOMATION", "PORTNUMBER", "HOSTNAME", "USERNAME", "CLASSNAME", "DOMAIN" and "PROTOCOL". These configuration files use the extension .bwc and are registered by Windows so that BW.EXE or BECS.EXE is invoked when they are launched.
