What are BSX files and how to open them

What is a BSX file?

A .BSX file is a BrickStore XML Data file.

BrickStore XML Data files contain inventories of building-brick items managed through the BrickStore application. Inventories list parts (or other categories) with identifying data such as item id, color, condition, quantity, price, and optional metadata like remarks or lot identifiers. These files are used to save, exchange, or upload inventory and catalog data, especially in connection with marketplaces or offline storage. BrickStore creates these files natively and users generally work with them to record what brick items they own, their pricing, and status.

BrickStore writes files using this format. Each file includes an overall inventory section which may specify the currency code and optional BrickLink change-log ID. Item entries define required fields like item identifier, item-type (part, minifigure, set etc.), color, and optional fields such as quantity, price, condition (new or used), status (included/excluded/extra), remarks, bulk amounts, lot IDs, and others. Applications importing these files typically read them to reconstruct a saved inventory, allow editing, display item names and categories, or prepare uploads to services such as BrickLink.

Technical details: the files are XML documents beginning with an XML declaration like <?xml version="1.0"?>, with a root element BrickStoreXML (or BrickStockXML), containing an Inventory element and optional GuiState element. Inventory may have attributes Currency (a three-letter code) and BrickLinkChangelogId. Inside Inventory are multiple Item elements. Each Item must include ItemID, ItemTypeID, ColorID; optional elements include Qty, Price, Status (I, X, E), Condition (N, U), Bulk, Sale, Comments, Remarks, Retain, Reserved, LotID, plus names like ItemName, ColorName, CategoryName and additional metadata. It also allows DifferenceBaseValues for comparing inventories. Byte signatures include strings like "BRICKSTOREXML", "ITEMTYPEID", "INVENTORY", "COLORID", "ITEMID" and the file begins with bytes showing "<?xml version=\"1.0\"" at offset 0.

How to open BSX files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BSX file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BSX file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
