What are BS2 files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a BS2 file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your BS2 files.

What is a BS2 file?

A .BS2 file is a BSArc Compressed Archive file.

A BSArc Compressed Archive file is a type of archive created by the BSArc utility from PhysTechSoft. It is used to bundle together multiple files and complete directory trees into a single compressed container. It was introduced with BSArc version 2.x during the DOS era and serves for storage or distribution of files in an efficient folder-structured format.

These archives are produced only by BSArc (PhysTechSoft) and later read by BSArc-compatible tools. When such an archive is unpacked, the original files and directories are restored. There is no known official documentation detailing additional embedded metadata or encryption; functionality is limited to compressing, grouping, and restoring files.

Files in this format begin with a fixed header signature: the ASCII characters "BSArc" followed by two null bytes, then version data and other archive-specific fields. Identified at offset zero is the byte sequence D4 03 53 42 20 00 (which correspond to "..SB " in ASCII), marking a BSArc Compressed Archive.
