What is a BPROJ file?

A .BPROJ file is a Blaise Datamodel Project file.

The Blaise Datamodel Project format records the settings and structure of a survey or data‐entry instrument as a project file used by the Blaise system when defining full data models, behaviours, resources and build properties. It holds references to which data model file is the main questionnaire, which resource database is used, conditional compilation or defines, search paths for included files or libraries, and metadata like project name, GUID, supported modes, layout or client settings, whether CATI, CAPI, CARI or web entry is enabled, plus error‐ignoring flags and other project‐wide options.

This file is created and edited through Blaise's survey development tools (such as the Project system / Solution Explorer in Blaise) and is used to store all configuration needed to prepare, compile, and deploy a survey instrument. The main data model source (often with .blax or related extension), external search paths, resource definitions, and project settings all plug into this project file so that the survey can be built correctly by the Blaise system.

Technically this is an XML file. It begins with an XML declaration "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>" followed by a Project element with attributes like ProjectName. Inside are sections or elements identified by keywords including DATAMODELFILETYPE, PACKAGESPECIFICATIONFILETYPE, MAINFILE RELATIVEPATH, RESOURCEDB RELATIVEPATH, INCLUDESEARCHPATH, LIBRARYSEARCHPATH, EXTERNALSEARCHPATH, CONDITIONALDEFINES, ISRUNNABLESURVEY, USECARI, SURVEYROOT, among many others. It also contains a GUID for the project.
