Business Plan Data
Business Plan Data files store the complete content of a business plan produced by Business Plan Pro, a software package by Palo Alto Software designed to help users draft, analyse, and present business plans. These files are created when a plan is saved, and they encapsulate text sections (executive summary, market analysis, strategy, etc.), financial tables, charts, settings for formatting, printing and layout, and metadata like dates, plan titles, company name and version information. They are used by Business Plan Pro to reopen, edit, and render the plan document in the same state it was when last saved.
These files are proprietary to Business Plan Pro and all plan elements - topics, charts, and tables - connect together inside the file so that changes in one (for example updating financial inputs in a table) automatically propagate to linked charts. Users export these files to other more generic formats (Word, Excel, PDF, etc.), but the native plan data file is required for full round-trip editing.
Inside the file there is a distinct ASCII header signature beginning at file start with "<plandata ". The content includes many keyword strings such as LOCKCOLUMNHEADERS, FONTCHARTYLABELS, ENTRYCELLFORMAT, PLANSETTINGS, PLANTITLE, CREATEDATE, PLANINFO, PLANID, VERSION, COMPANYNAME, and others. These identifiers mark internal sections of the plan-structure.
