What is a BOM file?
The .bom file extension is most commonly used by the Pro/ENGINEER 3-D production design software application. The BOM files used by this software are temporary files. These files are created when the application cannot allocate sufficient memory to perform necessary tasks. When the application is done with the BOM file, the file is usually deleted automatically.
The .bom file extension is also used for OrCAD schematic capture bill of materials files, MicroSim PCBoard bill of materials files, Softshare Delta Business object model files and Apple Mac OS X Bill of Materials files.

While we know of one file format using the .BOM file extension, there may be more. It is widespread that different programs use files with the same file extension for very different types of data. Please let us know if you are aware of a different kind of .BOM file.
