What are BIDULE files and how to open them

What is a BIDULE file?

A .BIDULE file is a Bidule Layout file.

The Bidule Layout format stores the design of a modular audio signal processing setup. It is created by Plogue's Bidule software to capture how modules ("bidules") are placed on a visual patchbay, how they connect with audio, MIDI, spectral, or control-signal lines, and how plugin or hardware inputs and outputs are configured. The file itself does not contain recorded sound; instead it holds the configuration, routing, parameters, grouping, and GUI layout so that the audio system can be rebuilt and edited exactly as it was designed.

Bidule Layout files are written when saving a working session in Bidule. The software uses them to restore the entire setup from scratch (all modules, links, device assignments, mixer settings, etc.). Users often share these layout files to exchange patches, templates, or complete audio/MIDI systems - provided that all referenced plugins or modules are also available on each system.

Bidule Layout files use a plain-text XML‐based format. The file begins with an XML declaration ("<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>") and includes tags and strings such as CHANNELCONFIG, LINK PRODUCERID, NUMSAMPLEIN, NUMMIDIOUT, PRODUCERCHANNEL, BIDULEGROUP ID, PARAMETER ID, DISPLAYNAME, UID_, etc., which represent how modules are identified, their numerical parameters, routing links, channels, GUI state, and layout geometry.

How to open BIDULE files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BIDULE file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BIDULE file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
