BAKA File

What are BAKA files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a BAKA file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your BAKA files.

What is a BAKA file?

A .BAKA file is a Crypt Killer Audio Data file.

Crypt Killer Audio Data files store sound recordings used by the video game Crypt Killer, developed by Konami. These are raw audio streams that hold 16-bit pulse-code modulation (PCM) data produced by the game for voices, music or sound effects. They are part of the game's own data files used internally by the system that runs Crypt Killer.

Creation of these files is part of the game's asset compilation process at development time; the game engine reads them directly when running. They are not known to be formatted for general editing tools, but tools that support custom game audio formats or libraries such as vgmstream can decode them. vgmstream's documentation identifies them under the "Konami BAKA header" format and says they use PCM16BE (16-bit big-endian PCM) coding.

A BAKA file begins with the ASCII signature "BAKA" at offset 0, includes "AHOPAPA" at offset 8, and "MAMA" at offset 38.
